GOP National Committeeman Jevon Williams issued the following statement on behalf of the territorial Republican Party in response to Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett’s latest subcommittee assignment:
“Instead of giving late night speeches in an empty House chamber, where the only audience are the C-SPAN cameras, Congresswoman Plaskett should have fought to be on the House Appropriations or Ways & Means committees. Despite her new subcommittee assignment, the fact remains that Congresswoman Plaskett did nothing to end the excessive environmental regulations that prevent Virgin Islanders from fishing in U.S. waters and accessing land that has been in their family for generations.”
Plaskett, D-Frederiksted, was named the ranking Democratic member of the Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy and Environment, which is part of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Plaskett is the only member of Congress from the five U.S. territories who is not a member of House Committee on Natural Resources, which has direct oversight over American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
