Virgin Islands votes for Trump

roll call

Donald J. Trump received the Republican presidential nomination with eight of the Virgin Islands’ nine votes.

The votes were cast by John Canegata, chairman of the Virgin Islands delegation to the Republican National Convention, during the roll call of the 50 states, five territories and the District of Columbia.

Canegata announced the votes, saying: “On behalf of the United States Virgin Islands—one of the five U.S. territories, where loyal, patriotic Americans are second-class citizens and are denied basic rights—it is a high privilege and distinct honor to announce that the childhood home of Alexander Hamilton, where slaves were first emancipated and where no passport is required to visit the beautiful Caribbean islands of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas proudly casts eight of its nine votes for our next president, the gentleman from New York, Donald J. Trump.”
